Ruby Hayes is an internationally acclaimed vocalist and actress whose career spans decades of distinguished performances across five continents, prestigious cultural institutions, luxury venues, film, and television. Renowned for her rich, expressive voice and commanding stage presence, Ruby continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
Career Highlights & International Engagements
In 2025, the U.S. Department of State selected Ruby from hundreds of artists nationwide for a two-month residency at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, where she represented the United States through music. Performing blues, R&B, soul, jazz, and gospel, she entertained and inspired thousands of international Expo visitors, solidifying her role as a cultural ambassador.
In 2024, Ruby made her singing debut in Egypt, performing aboard the luxury MS Nile Paradise River Cruise, entertaining a private, multinational audience while sailing the historic Nile River. Ruby has completed numerous five-star international hotel residencies, including:
– Thailand (six-month engagement in Pattaya Beach; three-month engagement in a five-star Bangkok hotel)
– Japan (three-month engagement at a five-star hotel)

After relocating to Los Angeles in 2009, Ruby recorded an album of original material. Her CD, Solitary Blues, was released on Spotify in 2014, further establishing her as a compelling songwriter and recording artist.

In 2003, WETA-TV (PBS, Channel 26) featured Ruby in promotional advertisements for “The Blues” produced by Martin Scorsese. Additional television appearances include Montgomery Community Television, Prince George’s Community Television, Pattaya Beach TV, and Bangkok TV.
Early Career & Musical Roots
Ruby began singing at age 14, leading a gospel choir in Plumerville, Arkansas, before relocating to Washington, DC in the early 1970s. She made her professional debut at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel with the Al Martinez Jazz Combo, later honing her craft with the R&B band The Exclusives. In 1975, she formed her own jazz and blues band, touring extensively from New York to Florida and appearing on WJLA Channel 7 and WDCA Channel 20.
Throughout her career, Ruby has opened for legendary artists including James Cotton, The Four
Tops, Cab Calloway III, Ray, Goodman & Brown, Vernon Garrett, and the late Little Milton.
